Starting a 12 Week Year

Confession: I tend to read books, feel inspired, then fail to implement changes into my daily routine. This is what happened when I first read the book, The 12 Week Year.

Starting a 12 Week Year

I recently saw an Instagram post recently mention the book which inspired me to dig out my copy and start a 12 Week Year!

Let me share a couple key points for those who haven’t read the book.

  • 12 Week Year is not a strategy to cram 12 months of activity into 12 weeks
  • 12 Week Year is a strategy to help you focus on a few goals at a time

I’m starting a 12 Week Year right now to work on a few goals I’ve been carrying over the last few years. It’s time to get them done! There will never be a perfect time or a reason to wait until Monday.

Starting a 12 Week Year will help me focus on the 3 primary goal areas I have for the next few months.

  1. My health
  2. My home business
  3. My creative work

The 12 Week Year approach has three specific benefits over traditional annual or quarterly goal setting. First, you are more likely to know what is coming in the next three months than the entire coming year. Second, you will be more focused because you are more limited with the time to reach the goals. Third, the strategy includes breaking down the goals and tracking progress.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is from an individual who shared his story in the book. Patrick stated, “We had to forget the previous six months’ slog and focus only on the 12 weeks ahead.”

I’m excited to get the process started and share my journey with you. I hope to make updates more frequently on Instagram, so feel free to join me there.
